I enjoy moving in and out of different mediums including pastels, watercolors and clothing/fabric design.
For 18 years I operated a small wearable art farm-based business called WhisSPIRIT. My husband Lee and I raised alpacas. I learned to convert rich fibers into felted fabrics. From those sheets of fabric I designed one of kind wearable apparel including coasts, jackets, hats and vests. I participated in high end juried shows, winning several prestigious awards for my work. I sold my pieces through wearable art boutiques in Santa Fe, Taos and Sedona. After moving to Maine I was invited to show my new designs at Markings Gallery in Bath.
I decided to stop making wearable artware, finding the market for unique and upscale clothing smaller and the work to be less satisfying.I have shifted my design work to wall hangings, household decorations like small rugs and table runners and unsized wearble items such as scarves and shawls. I have had five wall hangings juried into shows at River Arts Gallery in Damariscotta.
The fiber arts studio is equipped with dye pots, a carding machine, a FeltLOOM, a large steam press, two sewing machines and sergers and of course all kinds of fiber, threads and fabrics. I like best to work with skills, alpaca and merino wools, and I often dye my own materials. The combining of these diverse materials has its own dynamic energy , often to surprising results.
