Lee Yellow Brick Road 20 x 20 Oil and Acrylics on Canvas.jpg

Lee Liggett

I was born in 1946 in Lincoln, Nebraska. I spent my early life as a Child of the Corn. I obtained a law degree, served in the Army and pursued a career as a higher education attorney, but my creativity lay dormant.

Sixty years late, my creative awakening occurred during a pottery class in my adopted home state of New Mexico in 2006. As my wife and I pursued encore careers in an alpaca fiber business, I branched out into drawing, fiber art, and realistic painting.

I found my own artistic vision when I began painting abstract images. I discovered my visual and creative world is filled with amazing shapes and stimulating colors and that I can reimagine those images on a canvas!

After we moved to Maine in 2021, my abstract work evolved into still new chapters of exploration that incorporates texture and more complex images.

Sitting in my studio overlooking the Kennebec River, I manipulate those shapes and colors into what I hope will simulate the viewer’s imagination with a sense of pleasure, if only for a moments escape.
