After coming to this country from Korea in the mid-sixties to study art, I was introduced to many forms of Western art, my favorite being Abstract Expressionism. I am currently synthesizing Eastern and Western approaches to art, adapting the techniques and materials of Eastern calligraphy to Western themes. My primary goal is to close the gap between East and West while reaching for universal creativity.
Eastern calligraphy is a living, breathing spirit, not a dead, rigid tradition of thousands of years. Its unique form conveys the pulsation of life energy. Art to me is an expression of an inner world and inner energy. I translate this energy into brush strokes. As an artist, I try to bring invisible and inexpressible dimensions to the surface using elements of design.
