As an Artist I am interested in shape and color, particular how different forms in a piece interact with one another. I might find the form in nature, my kitchen or a place I’ve visited. Re-creating a subject in a painting, whether it is here in Maine, Mexico or Italy, allows me to revisit places I love once again.
I enjoy mixing my own colors. I seldom use paint “straight up.” Acrylic is my primary medium, building up many layers and allowing the first layers to reveal themselves once again. My most recent works also include a tree series, abstracts, chickens, still life’s with lobsters and other seafood such as “bouillabaisse”. My creative work provides a means of bringing me closer to my natural surroundings. Another favorite subject is flowers because of their beauty, strength and delicate nature.
Although primarily a self-taught artist, I have studied with Evelyn Dunphy, Francisco Agresti, Joana Coke and many others. My work is in private collections in New England, San Francisco, Charlotte, Venice and Miami.
