An artist book is created as a single or a limited edition of copies. It can take many forms, but usually communicates through images and or text. It is a work of art that uses different kinds of papers, often hand made, with a variety of ancient techniques lovingly re-created.
Artist books usually break the barriers of convention using different techniques than a traditional book for binding it together. Some are glued together, some are stitched, with the stitching utilized as a decoration on the spine. These books can use folds, free or unusual shapes, handwritten text, or text from typesetting and copies or original art work including paintings, drawing, prints and collage. People who collect artist books, often house them in a special place or display them on a shell, and in particular, bring them out to show friends who are visiting.
