Welcome to artist-owned Centre St. Arts Gallery LLC (CSAG), located at 11 Centre Street in Bath, Maine. Our current show, which runs through October 18, includes paintings and sculpture from 20 member artists, with special guest Katherine (Kat) Mead-von-Huene. The wine and cheese reception for the new show is scheduled for Friday, August 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. All are welcome!
Kat’s exhibit titled Vintage includes paintings inspired by her grandmother’s antique photographs and table linens. “The photos are small,” she said. “By enlarging them and adding color, I can bring the past to the present and better enter my grandmother’s world.” Kat was encouraged by her artistic mother to draw and paint since she was a child and was trained in art schools in Boston and Philadelphia. She paints in watercolor, oils and acrylics, often using a limited palette of black and white, which she finds as satisfying as color. The image below, called “January-lo”, exemplifies her style and subject matter.
During the summer and fall, the Gallery is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (on Sundays, noon to 4:00 p.m.). To check on dates and other information about occasional workshops and special events at CSAG (like the upcoming “Color Your Life” presentation on Sunday, September 8), please click on the Events page.
CSAG is proud to be a member of Bath’s strong artist community. The town now boasts three fine art galleries and many studios, in addition to the Chocolate Church Arts Center. Having long attracted painters and others interested in the arts, Bath sponsors art walks during the summer season. The last art walk scheduled in 2019 is on September 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. CSAG will host a public reception as part of that celebration.
