Centre St. Arts Gallery regularly exhibits work in a variety of styles and media by 20 member artists and features a special guest artist for a new show every 6 to 8 weeks.

Welcome to artist-owned Centre Street Arts Gallery (CSAG), located at 11 Centre Street in Bath, Maine. The first winter show has now been hung, with paintings and sculpture from 20 member artists. The gallery is open weekly from Wednesday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Besides exhibiting the work of our member artists, CSAG also holds occasional workshops, with the next one, called “Watercolor: Made to Order”, planned in April. Please click on the Events page to get more information.

Also now showing in the gallery is a special exhibit (see photo below) by student artists from grade 6 through 12, with works including charcoal, gouache, ink, paper maché, acrylic, and pencil. The students come from Morse, Hyde, Mt. Ararat Middle, Harpswell Coastal, Chop Point and St. John’s Catholic schools. The student show will run until Saturday, March 2, with a reception on the final day from 2 to 4 p.m. Please join us to enjoy refreshments while viewing this highly creative work and supporting local students.

The current show also includes paintings by our two newest associates, Ed McCartan and Page O’Rourke. Samples of their work are shown below, but please visit the Artist pages to see more of their paintings and read their artist statements. Ed uses botanical, spiritual and expressive imagery to create complex, abstract compositions reflecting his background in theology and philosophy. Nature provides his inspiration. Ed has been a life-long teacher of studio art and art history and will bring a new dimension to the gallery’s stable of talent.

Page too will expand the breadth of the gallery’s offerings, bringing a new approach to landscape painting. With a background as a children’s book illustrator, she paints vibrant Maine scenes in a joyful, graphic style which she describes as “pop folk art”. She is seldom without her sketchbook as she ventures from her studio, translating iconic images of Maine into her unique style.

CSAG is proud to be a member of Bath’s strong artist community. The town now boasts three fine art galleries and many artist studios, in addition to the Chocolate Church Arts Center. Having long attracted painters and others interested in the arts, Bath sponsors art walks from May to September annually. CSAG hosts public receptions as part of these art celebrations. Please join us for a glass of wine at one of our receptions while you browse the latest works of our member artists.
